Fennel Seed

Licensed in Europe and China as a standard medicinal herb, Fennel seed (Foeniculum vulgare) has long been used to ease gastrointestinal problems, and in galactagogue preparations (those taken by breastfeeding mamas to help increase breast milk supply). The adorable cluster of flowers atop long stalks framed with wispy leaves trumpet the wonders beneath. Fennel bulbs and fronds have delicious culinary uses, and the tiny, oblong seed is packed with more than just a licorice-like taste. Fennel seeds also stimulate menstruation, therefore are not recommended during pregnancy in greater than culinary amounts.*
